Allison Farrell is a consistent leader on 5E. In the charge and resource role, Allison frequently guides the unit through daily activities and more significant issues. Recently, Allison has been present for multiple escalation of care events. Allison has been incredible, calm, and collected while providing oversight of the unit and guiding the RNs through the care. Allison constantly speaks up for her patients and escalates through nursing leadership as needed. Allison is also a CLABSI champion for the unit and can be counted on for any central line question. Allison is always there to offer assistance and even helps out before her shift starts. Last week, when she arrived at the unit at 6:30, she jumped in, helping secure supplies for her coworkers. Just yesterday, Allison went out of her way to partner with case management and investigate possible home supplies for a patient. Over the course of two days, Allison engaged with multiple members of the interdisciplinary team, pulling together all the needed input. Allison had concerns about this patient being discharged because of their complex anatomy, specialty equipment, and the challenges that nursing was having while caring for the patient. Allison was firm that she didn't feel comfortable or safe with the patient's discharge plan. After further conversations, the providers agreed. I was thankful that Allison navigated the team through that confusing and challenging situation. She prioritized patient safety in this situation, as in all cases. I'm so grateful to get to work with Allison. She is an excellent and compassionate nurse.
