Back in 2023, I was admitted to the hospital for my first STEM cell transplant, a daunting and nerve-wracking experience for me. On my first night alone in the hospital, Allison took the time to sit with me and engage in comforting conversation. Her presence and genuine concern provided me with much-needed reassurance and support during a vulnerable time. A few nights later, I encountered a medical situation that required me to move to a different room. Allison not only assisted me with the logistics of the move but also demonstrated immense care and empathy throughout the process. She ensured that I felt comfortable and settled in my new surroundings, alleviating any additional stress.
Despite the challenges I faced during my hospital stay, Allison consistently went above and beyond. Every day, I made an effort to use the stationary bike on the floor as part of my routine. When I was relocated to my new room, Allison proactively sought solutions to ensure that I could continue accessing the bike, reflecting her commitment to supporting my well-being and recovery.
Earlier this year, I returned to the unit for my second STEM cell transplant. Though Allison was not assigned as my nurse during this time, she made a point to visit me after seeing my spouse on the floor. Additionally, when circumstances arose that prevented patient access to the stationary bike, Allison took it upon herself to arrange for physical therapy to provide desk bike pedals for my use in my hospital room despite not being directly responsible for my care. Her thoughtful gesture exemplifies her selflessness and dedication to the holistic care of her patients.
