One of the most admirable qualities of this nurse leader is her unwavering commitment to fairness and doing the right thing. She treats everyone with respect, ensuring that decisions are made based on objective criteria rather than personal biases.
Having worked closely with this nurse leader, I have witnessed firsthand her exceptional qualities of advocacy, insightful decision-making, professionalism, and calmness. These characteristics make this nurse leader an outstanding candidate for this recognition.
In high-pressure situations, this nurse leader consistently maintains a composed demeanor. Her ability to stay calm under stress not only helps in making clear and rational decisions but also inspires confidence and stability within the nursing teams. This nurse leader ensures the charge nurses understand the bigger picture, which in turn supports reassignment decisions. She communicates the patient flow plan, closing the loop to ensure timely execution. She serves as a liaison between patients and staff while mitigating concerns and providing service recovery. When she leads by example with a calm demeanor, others follow suit.
One of the most admirable qualities of this nurse leader is her unwavering commitment to fairness and doing the right thing. She treats everyone with respect, ensuring that decisions are made based on objective criteria rather than personal biases. This quality has fostered a culture of trust and inclusivity within our team when she is present. I appreciate her willingness to advocate for staff, educate me on her thought process even when it may differ from my own, and make the best decisions for the building. She is skilled at explaining the why.
Recently, this nurse leader was scheduled at West Shore and utilized all of these qualities over and over again. It was a very busy shift and this was the date all leaders were attending the RiTE Session, and therefore off-site for most of the day. In addition to the normal staffing and capacity issues, our ICU was hopping with more than typical critical care patients, plus 2 assignments of med-surg overflow. This nurse leader was prepared for and facilitated bed meetings with very few participants and helped to manage a code blue, 2 RRTs, and a customer service/service recovery situation. She handled all of this with grace, utilized the resources available to her, and orchestrated exceptional patient care while supporting a professional development opportunity for our leaders.
Her varied background of clinical nursing and MedCall allows her to have a deeper understanding of complex issues regarding patient care, throughput and staffing. She uses this experiential knowledge to support our team in their work each day. This nurse leader’s dedication and positive attitude make her an invaluable asset to our leadership team.
