In her short time here at Gaylord, Alyssa Battick has become a crucial part of our team. Working on our unit can come with a roller coaster of different nursing experiences. Alyssa is always willing to take on any challenge, ask questions, and face every learning opportunity with a positive attitude. She is a shining example of a team player, and she has a knack for making you laugh along the way. Nursing is full of challenges, and I think people sometimes forget that little things like that can sometimes really make a difference in your team. She demonstrates that by taking a variety of assignments without question, maintaining a positive attitude, and helping anyone at any time when asked. If you were not working on the unit it would be hard to tell which patients she is caring for as you can regularly find her in all the rooms helping out. We recently had a long term resident here on our unit. She could be a little particular about the nurses that I assigned to her, and she absolutely loved Alyssa. They developed a relationship over her long stay here at Gaylord. Alyssa regularly bought her clothes, gifted her a fire stick, and used her own resources to help her with subscriptions such as Netflix. This patient recently passed away, and I am confident that despite the challenging life she had, it was better to have Alyssa caring for her. Her ability to go above and beyond like this is very noticeable in her day to day work. Observing her nursing process when she takes on a challenging patient situation and subsequently develops a rapport with the patient and family is a pleasure to watch. It is the piece of nursing that no piece of technology could ever replace. I look forward to watching her advance her career and provide exceptional care to our patients.
