I give thanks that we had Alyssa because we knew that we were eventually going to be ok.
My birth story is very unique compared to most. I went into early labor and stayed in the hospital for 7 days. On top of all that, my baby was diagnosed with a condition that made her not compatible with life. Alyssa was extremely careful of our feelings and maneuvered her way that made us feel safe and comfortable in what would be a very sad moment for us. Once my baby was taken away to be examined and prepared, Alyssa asked if we were ok being left alone. She even offered to do her reports in the room with us. I found this offer so generous and it displayed her kindness because she saw my husband and I struggling with our emotions and she was willing to sit with us in the uncomfortableness and help us with the beginning of our grief. I give thanks that we had Alyssa because we knew that we were eventually going to be ok. She expressed that the moment is hard but that it wasn't going to stay hard. She made me realize that there was light at the end of a very long tunnel. Alyssa was also an expert at her craft. She made sure I was fully aware and understood anything that was being done in my care. Just as I was getting ready to push and before the Doctors were called in, she very carefully warned me that my hospital room was about to be filled with many specialists and other nurses but she promised me that she was going to be right there with me and help me with anything. A comforting face in a room of strangers.
