Nurses are very familiar with taking on roles that require many hats to be worn. Amalia Garcia personifies this fundamental ingredient of nursing, and always considers patients' and their families' whole experience. Amalia was chosen as a DAISY Nurse because of her diligence in helping a veteran and his wife by orchestrating a safe discharge home. This veteran had many complicated medical and social needs and only had his non-medically trained wife to help him. So, Amalia worked for several days - rescheduling her time off - to coordinate a plan to accommodate their needs. Due to her persistence, she prevented a very long and unnecessary hospital stay of 6 weeks. The vet's wife texted, "I feel so much better now with the process... Thank you so much!
