She made me feel calm at a time when I was very scared and nervous.
Amanda is the epitome of what a nurse is- caring, compassionate, an advocate, etc. I have never been this sick in my whole life and Amanda was my nurse at both of my recent ED visits. I know it wasn’t by coincidence. We could relate to each other- she had been through some life-changing health events, and so had I. After losing two pregnancies, the second being ectopic requiring emergency surgery in February of this year, I was diagnosed with Grave’s Disease. After having radioactive iodine treatment, I decompensated and became very sick. Amanda was my nurse at my visit and I was so sick and so scared that I was in a thyroid storm. She made me feel calm at a time when I was very scared and nervous. She shared with me that she had been at the hospital for years but had recently finished nursing school. Amanda is so deserving of the DAISY Award. She truly cares and provides excellent patient care. I told her on the last ED visit that I really enjoyed her being my nurse but hoped I wouldn’t have to be back to the ED as much in the future. I am now scheduled to have surgery and I hope to feel better, but I will never forget all she did for me at both of my ED visits.
