While the doctor did explain what I was going to get, perhaps as expected, Amanda explained more deeply, and really put me at ease.
I came in with a fist-sized abscess on my jaw. Terrifying! Every person I encountered was fantastic from the nurse who walked me through construction, to check in, to the one who got me blankets as I was checked in 30 minutes before a busy shift change, to the registration dude, the doctor was fantastic, and a nurse helped walk me back out through construction! But Amanda was a standout! My IV port was quick and as painless as possible. She explained every medication the doctor had ordered. I am stupidly sensitive to drugs so when the IV steroids hit, I experienced the sensation of being raked with a wire brush. Amanda was watching me and immediately told me it didn't happen to everyone but wasn't uncommon. That put me at ease. While I have no addiction issues, I really do not like pain meds and often vomit. While the doctor did explain what I was going to get, perhaps as expected, Amanda explained more deeply, and really put me at ease. The pain was hot, throbbing, and insane. She assured me I'd feel better in 10-15 minutes. In 15 minutes I was sound asleep for the first time in days. She is clearly cut out for this work. A very busy day in a busy ER, and she made me feel like I had superlative private care. Thank again SVMC ER! You never disappoint!
