From the moment she started her time with M, we could tell that she was a fantastic nurse—one that took the time to explain things to both M and our family—and also took pride in adding personal touches to her nursing practice. She could calm M down easily, and we felt at peace when we knew Amanda was caring for M. When M learned that her time with her family was ending, Amanda spoke with wisdom and kindness. Amanda told M that she was giving her family, especially her children and grandchildren, a gift by allowing them to spend time with her before she passed. Amanda worked diligently to make her final transfer to the fourth floor smooth—and catered to family requests almost instantaneously, such as reaching out to palliative care and other providers, and ensuring that we all had everything we needed and were communicated with in a respectful manner.
One particular comment that Amanda said frequently to M was 'You're the boss.' And Amanda made sure that M was.
