Amanda Gower is a phenomenal nurse who is very dependable. She is one of our charge nurses and is amazing at it. She has great communication skills, knowledge about the policies and procedures of the department, advocates for her patients and her staff and is always first on the scene of any fellow nurse in need of help. When you walk on to shift and see her, you know that you will have someone in your corner. She is very passionate about her job and is excellent at it, and it shows.

Amanda and I had answered a call from a patient that informed us she was on the way in and in labor. This patient had no family members in town or many friends and was driving herself to the hospital while in labor. As I went to go and gather some supplies to meet the patient in the ED, Amanda came with me. She kept the patient on the phone and talked to her while also triaging her to gauge her medical status and labor status. As we waited for her down in the ED, Amanda continued to instruct the patient on breathing techniques. Suddenly, the patient was delivering in the car on the freeway, and Amanda calmly coached her through how to deliver her baby in her car. It was amazing to watch as it seemed so natural for Amanda. Amanda instructed her to pull over all the way on the side of the freeway, and I called 911 to have them meet her where she was. Amanda stayed on the phone with her until the fire department arrived and took over. We continued to wait at the ambulance bay in the ED for the patient's arrival. Once the patient arrived, she and I escorted the fire department, patient and baby to their designated room and made sure she was settled and taken care of before she returned to her previous duties. It is truly an honor to work with her!
