While rounding, a patient and her sister talked to me about how wonderful Amanda was to them. They told me that she took her time and explained everything that was happening in a way they understood, making them feel less anxious about being in the hospital.

Another patient, who had been here for over a month told me that Amanda stops to see her every day she is working, even when she is not the nurse taking care of her. Amanda provided her with emotional support and offered encouragement throughout her hospitalization. The patient told me what an excellent nurse Amanda is and that she really cares about her patients.

Amanda recently befriended another patient who had some psych issues. Amanda listened to her tell stories and gently reoriented her when necessary, revealing the healing presence that is crucial to the patient’s well-being.

Amanda exemplifies what the DAISY Award is by being compassionate, having a good attitude and providing the best care possible.
