Upon arriving at the Acute Rehab Unit, the first person I remember meeting was Amanda. At that time, I was unable to do anything without assistance. As she was helping me get ready for a shower, she noticed the gauze patch where my feeding tube was located. She was visibly upset and concerned, as it was a mess. Amanda told me that she was worried about possible infection, it was that bad. After my shower, she cleaned it up and flushed my tube, probably saving me from serious complications. She helped me throughout the weekend, assisting me with everything from eating to using the restroom. On Sunday, I found out she had changed her schedule at least in part, to also work Monday so that she could attend a meeting with the doctor and other nurses to inform them of all my special needs.
Amanda spent a lot of time over the weekend asking about what I had been through in the previous months, all the time, taking notes so that she could share with the others. Her being there on Monday meant a lot to me. That she would change her schedule because of me, showed me she really cared. A bit later during my stay, I had issues with hemorrhoids and some other things that many do not care to discuss. Amanda noticed I was suffering and did what she needed to do to assist me. I am eternally grateful.

Amanda was so kind and caring while I was in the hospital. I had a hip replacement and when I went home, I fell and broke my right hand. I had to return to the hospital, to the Acute Rehab Unit, to get stronger. There were some very kind nurses and staff who took care of me on that unit, but one nurse went above and beyond. She explained everything to me and took the time to help me get out of bed, without making me feel rushed. I am pretty independent, so this was not easy for me, to slow down and let others take care of me. I appreciate everything Amanda helped me do. She was funny and witty and just acted like she loves her job.
