She is patient with them, spends time with them, tries to build a connection, and assures they get everything they need.
I had the pleasure of having Amanda Hernandez as my preceptor for my preceptorship. Amanda is an exceptional nurse and I have learned so much from her. She starts off her day on such a positive note and keeps that energy throughout the day. She is one of the only nurses that I have seen go above and beyond for her patients. She is patient with them, spends time with them, tries to build a connection, and assures they get everything they need. She always advocates for her patients and takes her time thoroughly explaining everything to the patients and their family members, all while still getting everything that needs to be done in a timely manner. I have even seen her visit her old patients and their families. Without even being asked, she is always helping other nurses on the floor to help them get caught up in their assignments and even helps the techs by cleaning up her patients on her own, getting them up out of bed into a chair for the day, and makes sure the call lights are always answered. Even on her downtime she always finds something to do, whether it is making sure everything is stocked, cleaning up, and she even took the time to strip the patient's room when they are discharged.
Amanda is a nurse whom I truly look up to and she is a true representation of what a great nurse should be. Even patients have told me how lucky I am to have her as a preceptor and that I am in good hands. A patient recently said, "If you ever become half the nurse Amanda is, you will be great." She is a great asset to your unit and a true DAISY Nurse. I am grateful for this experience I was able to have for my preceptorship, and thank you for having me.
