My father was unable to breathe on his own and was put on a ventilator along with other devices and tubes. It was very upsetting to see him this way. When I returned the next day to see him again, Amanda Kelley was there, gently and kindly giving him a shave. She was speaking so warmly and kindly to him as she did this. It warmed my heart to see how kindly she treated him. It made me feel a lot better to know he was receiving good care, and by someone who showed true care and human kindness to this patient who wasn't conscious. It's the little things like this kind gesture, that can make all the difference in times of sorrow and suffering. Amanda showed great gentleness with him, and during the entire interaction I had with her during our visit, she was a calming and positive force that I greatly appreciated. If all caregivers could have this much compassion for their patients, this world would be a better place for the sick and infirm.
