Her quick actions and relentless determination to get her into the CT scan, even with the vomiting, and staying with her (timing the vomiting) to make sure mom was OK is greatly appreciated and allowed the rest of the team to do their job.
My mom got to the ER Tuesday morning at about 5:20AM. She had been vomiting every 5 minutes and so they gave her a shot of Zofran. At the shift change at 7 AM, Amanda could not have been there but a short time and my mom continued the vomiting spells. Amanda quickly asked the doctor if she could take a second dose, which she did. Amanda said, ‘let’s wait about 15 minutes’ but that she needed to stop vomiting so they could do a CT scan; so they ‘could get things moving,’ Well, the Zofran did not work and Amanda was determined to get my mom into the CT scan. Amanda said, “We have to get your mom scanned so we can determine what the next septs are, and so I’m going to take your mom in there; I’m going to wait until she vomits (about every 5 minutes) and then I will quickly get her into the CT scan so we can see what is wrong.” She said she would stay with her by the machine to make sure my mom did not choke on the vomit. She took her out, and in less than 10 minutes, she was back with the scan complete. In just a few moments later, we knew of the bowel obstruction and aspiration that had occurred, and the doctors were able to develop a plan. That all happened before 9 AM.

Her quick actions and relentless determination to get her into the CT scan, even with the vomiting, and staying with her (timing the vomiting) to make sure mom was OK is greatly appreciated and allowed the rest of the team to do their job.

Thank you, Amanda, for your tenacity in getting the Scan done. Your kindness and dedication were greatly appreciated.
