Amber stayed, assisting with everything until she could no longer stay as she was coming back on the night shift.
Our day shift only had 4 RNs including charge, and we had 3 critical patients. Amber, who was charge on the night shift, stayed several hours past her shift to assist the very challenged day shift. A sepsis alert was called on the first patient, followed by an RT on the second patient, and stat orders on the third patient. Amber assisted with ensuring all blood products were immediately hung on the first patient who was a very critical patient. She assisted in the second RRT and continued all follow-up charge responsibilities while day charge was attending to patients. When thanking this nurse for staying, she was extremely positive and only said, “We are a team and it’s about patient care.” Amber sent several perfect serves to all physicians in another nurse's group and ensured her team’s ability to continue high-quality safe patient care. Amber is a new nurse, as well as a new charge nurse, and always models a positive attitude and thinks about patient and staff safety. Amber stayed, assisting with everything until she could no longer stay as she was coming back on the night shift. This shows excellent teamwork and models exactly the nursing mindset that we need to have here at Lutheran.
