Amber deserves recognition for her excellent, thorough, thoughtful and compassionate work. I was hospitalized for over a week with complication of a perforated appendicitis. Amber was my nurse 4 nights in a row and got me through the roughest stretches with professionalism. In the big picture, I was always greatly reassured whenever she informed me she was checking all the MD's notes in my chart to make sure we were on a coherent, linear care plan. I was confused from talks with docs during the daytime and she was able to confirm and clarify their plans. For example, she helped make sure multiple changes to my antibiotics made sense - this provided me with profound relief in hard times. Amber was cool in crisis too. When she came on shift once, I was nauseated and vomiting. She problem solved instantly, noting my NG had a declining output. She quickly flushed the NG and voluminous output was released and I instantly went from horrible nausea/vomiting and bloating to relief.
On top of all of the above superb nursing, Amber was personable, calm and always present in the moment. She maintained clear focus on the care she was providing without distraction and without haste. For all of these reasons, Amber deserves the DAISY Award for her excellent clinical skill and exemplary compassionate care.
