She is EXACTLY where she is intended to be and doing what she is intended to do in this life.
My son was transferred to Norton Children’s for an appendectomy from an outside hospital. Although we had a good experience, one nurse really stood out to me. Amber on the 6th floor was his night shift nurse after his surgery. She is EXACTLY where she is intended to be and doing what she is intended to do in this life. Amber was very attentive to my son, my husband, and myself. Amber was very knowledgeable, confident, and rolled with the situation. The computer system was down, and she had to use downtime forms instead of the usual clicking of a computer, no big deal to her. “I’ll bring his medicine as soon as the pharmacy gets it to me”, I was a little unsure of the pain medicine that he was prescribed just because I don’t work with kids, but he was hurting. She assured me that he was being monitored and that was a usual dose for a kid his age but understood my concerns and she put my mind as ease. She gave him his pain medicine and his pain was controlled. She came in his room to round on him every hour it seemed like and always checked on us also. She monitored his incisions, vitals, intake, output, and pain and was so pleasant in doing so. She spoke to him when he was awake and asked him questions, not my husband and I, as he was the patient not us. She treated my son the way that I’m sure she would want her family to be treated if they were in the hospital. Amber is the kind of nurse I think all nurses should be, and I for one should know. I myself am a nurse and have been for over 15 years in adult Orthopedics and Med/Surg, and I never tell anyone what I do when my family is hospitalized. I don’t do this to be sneaky, I do it because at the time I am NOT a nurse, I am a mother of a sick child. Having Amber as his nurse and knowing she was watching over him, I was able to actually rest after being awake for over 30 hours. Amber should win this award because she is EXACTLY the type of nurse that this award is for, EXCELLENT. Thank you, Amber, for taking care of my son and being the person that you are. We appreciate you.
