The patient was so incredibly grateful for Amber and the care she received at Kettering Health Miamisburg.
Amber Jones works in Kettering Health PAT Consult Clinic. She assessed a patient by phone to prepare them for their upcoming EGD and Bariatric Surgery with Dr. B. Currently, with the hospital guidelines, all patients need Covid testing prior to surgery and procedures. The patient expressed, by phone, that she did not have transportation to complete a Covid test, and the procedure was scheduled for two days from the call. The patient stated that her sister, who cared for her, just recently died two weeks ago. The patient began crying on the phone and stated she would use her electric bill money to have an Uber take her to Southview drive through to complete the test.
The patient stated, "she could go without lights but could not go without the surgery any longer." Amber took the initiative to speak with the consulting physician the patient saw for bariatric surgery to ensure the patient could receive a medical extension for her electric bill due to her being on a CPAP machine. The patient went to Southview Drive Through, where she was dropped off because it was "Covid related" as stated by the Uber company. Amber quickly got in contact with the director of the lab and had a Covid tent lab staff member find her and swab her since the patient was physically standing in the drive-through line. Amber followed up with this patient afterward by sending her a card in PPO on her EGD day to remind her there are always helpers in the world and she is not alone with the passing of her sister and that we serve a Father who knows every hair on our head and cares for us deeply.
