I was admitted at the ER and was assigned to Nurse Ameel. Upon entering my room, he introduced himself and things that he will be doing during his shift. He checked my IV site, vital signs and while he was doing these, he was conversating and asking questions on how I feel, pain level, sleep and if there is anything that he can do for me. He was compassionate and gentle. Being a nurse myself and to be taken care of by a male nurse for the 1st time in my 41 years as a nurse, I give this nurse Ameel an excellent review on his job. He has a heart and compassion with his patients. It shows that he loves being a nurse and not just working as a nurse. After this initial encounter, he followed up on my Gastrologist consult and gave me feedback of what is going on with the consult. He explained to me the importance of maintaining the "NPO" when I almost gave up on waiting for the Endoscopy procedure. He was persistent to have me wait and have the procedure done. Upon leaving my room to the Gastro Unit, he checked on me, my IV site and assured me that I will be fine and he would be here when I came back. Ameel checked my orientation, checked if I ha​​d nausea and vomiting as well as my IV site. After his thorough assessment upon returning to the ER room, he gave me food and explained thoroughly all my admission and discharge papers with emphasis on my new medications and tips of gastritis prevention. He is compassionate, professional and he takes his time to assess me. I know he will take care of me because of this, I nominated Nurse Amee! for a DAISY Award. He deserves it.
