I would like to nominate Ami Mabie, RN, for a DAISY award for her exceptional input on society... Big statement, I know, but let me introduce you to the Ami I know and love: For the last couple of years, I've had multiple chances to observe Ami with her patients. Time and time again, the patient population Ami chooses to work with is the most challenging and fragile category of patients, in my opinion. Patients newly diagnosed with cancer, patients with suicidal ideations, patients with mental disorders, patients with substance abuse problems, lonely patients... The amount of kindness and compassion Ami shows to these humans is truly outstanding! Ami is a constant fountain of support not only to her patients but also to their family members. And we all know how emotionally draining it could be. Sadly, mental health is at the forefront of our societal problems. Luckily, these struggles are recognized more and more nowadays! And this is why Ami's impact on our society is tremendous! Her healing touch and kind words make the world a bit better every day. Ami's influence spreads onto her co-workers as well. Knowingly or not, she's teaching by example to our new nurses compassion, tolerance, and kindness. We've all heard an expression "actions speak volumes". Ami is a vivid example of this expression! This is why, selfishly, my day is always better when I see Ami at work! She deserves not just a DAISY but the whole bouquet of daisies!
