Amy always demonstrates compassionate care. Here is one example of her outstanding service and care. A patient on our unit was recently diagnosed with celiac disease, among other illnesses that have brought major changes to his young life. The patient was feeling frustrated at all the changes in his life and becoming depressed from being in the hospital without any family or friends visiting. Amy saw that she could educate him about the gluten-free diet and give him some control back in his life. She brought in books to review with him, bought gluten-free snacks and lunch from Publix for him that were more appealing to his personal taste than what is available from dietary, and gave him a card he can keep in his wallet to present at restaurants for gluten-free meal choices. This is just one example of how Amy goes above and beyond what is expected to show our patients that they are cared for and their concerns are heard. She is an extraordinary nurse. Her humor, enthusiasm, and compassion show through in all that she does.
