Amy was our first nurse as we moved from the ER to the unit. At that time, we had no idea what was going on with our daughter. Amy's bright smile and wonderful personality was so comforting and reassuring that she was in good hands. She took great care of us almost constantly staying by our bedside the first two hours were on the floor.
My daughter is autistic, but Amy made such a great connection which in and of itself made her worthy of the DAISY Award, because my daughter doesn't make those connections. For the duration of our stay, Amy continued to check in on our daughter and assist with her care. Amy's clinical care was always spot-on, with gentle hands and reassuring smile. She would always take the time to explain things and make sure we knew what was going on. She worked so well with her doctors that it truly gave a sense of true team work.
On our last night, even though we were not one of her patients, she stopped in several times to see how she was. In the morning, she came and told us bye and made sure everything was okay and to give our daughter a good bye hug. Amy is truly a role model to other nurses as to what compassion and quality care looks like.
