We went back and Amy gave us a heart-shaped box with a little vial in it. The vial contained a tiny EKG of our family member’s last heartbeat. You will never know how much this meant to the entire family!
One of the sweetest things was the last nurse at Cox South named Amy Combs who took care of my family member who was on comfort care, during his last hours on this earth. She was absolutely the most professional and caring person, hands down. Anyone would be blessed to have their loved one cared for by Amy. During this process, she explained in detail everything that she was doing and how that would help my family member be comfortable as his journey was coming to an end. She talked to him which comforted him and we feel confident that he knew that she was his angel on earth during this time. He was not able to speak but definitely would respond when she would talk to him and care for him. She was so compassionate in helping the family cope with this end-of-life situation. She went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. Another one of our family members had medical issues and she made sure that he had food and water as well, to ensure he stayed healthy. After my family member passed, not only did we shed tears, but she shed tears as well. When we left the hospital, she called us and said she had something for us. We went back and she gave us a heart-shaped box with a little vial in it. The vial contained a tiny EKG of our family member’s last heartbeat. You will never know how much this meant to the entire family! Amy will always have a special place in our hearts. We would like her to know what she meant to us during this trying time. She went to school to learn the professional part of being a nurse, but the compassion that she displayed is not something that she learned in school, but something that is within her.
