I was admitted to L&D at 36 weeks and underwent C-section because of pregnancy induced hypertension. Feeling apprehensive and certainly worried about having a premature baby I was full of questions-many of which couldn’t be answered, but that didn’t stop my nurse, Amy, from going far above & beyond her duties as my nurse to anticipate my needs and fears, and try to provide me with as much information as possible to limit the surprises and help me know what to expect. It is absolutely true that knowledge is power! She prepared me for the delivery, the possibility of my baby needing some extra care flowing deliver and for the post-partum process-including how it would affect our time with the baby if he was in NICU. She was able to dramatically decrease the fears/anxieties my husband & I had simply by taking extra time to help us plan for the unexpected. Such compassion, such excellent care, such a desire to be an advocate for her patients! This behavior exceeded my expectations, and it must be recognized/rewarded. Nurses like Amy are a real blessing to this community.
