We have been to Children's many times due to our son having a trach and g-tube. All of the nurses on this floor, and even Special Care have been amazing, but this special nurse stands out. Our son, K had LTR surgery and was intubated and sedated for 7 days. During this time he got three (3) viruses. Things got rocky real fast. He had to be paralyzed for a couple of days to fight them. As a mother I was falling apart. I hit an emotional wall and could not regroup. Amy not only kept our son alive with her talent and skills, but more importantly she truly cares for our family. She brought me a box of tissues and comforted me and hugged me for 45 minutes after her shift was over. She was my rock and got me back to a positive light.
She is a special person and nurse. She also came the next day on her day off to check in on K and me and my husband. She is a pure example of the goodness in our world and she deserves to be recognized for it. She now has a special part in our heart. When telling K about his story to survive (which has been a very long battle) she will be included as one of God's special people that he put in our life. That is how much she impacted us and will continue to inspire families every day.
Children's of Alabama is blessed to have a nurse like Amy taking care of these sick kids. She was the light in a very dark situation.
