As a nurse, you see many wonderful things your colleagues do on a day to day basis to make their patients stay at the hospital more comfortable. But there was one special moment in time when I just sat back and watched this angel work her magic.
This angel's name is Amy Fegan. I had walked in with her from the parking lot. She had a smile from ear to ear. Her hands were full of balloons, shopping bags, and a beautiful plant. I asked her "What are we celebrating". She turned around and with her big beautiful Irish smile, she said, "It's Mrs. B's 100th day". Only Amy would know that our patient was here for 100 days. Amy was determined to make this day so special for Mrs. B. She decorated the windows, she placed the balloons all around...But that was not all she did. Amy couldn't imagine what it would be like not to be able to go outside for 100 days. She was on a mission to take Mrs. B outside to smell the fresh air. Amy called about 5 different doctors to get their ok to take Mrs. B outside. When the patient heard that she was going to go outside, she almost cried. Amy arranged all the details. When Mrs. B went outside, Amy said she just looked all around in amazement. It was a beautiful day. The flowers were blooming and the birds were singing. Mrs. B was just taking it all in. Something we all take for granted. Amy not only made Mrs. B so happy, but her family was so thankful. Amy went above and beyond to make Mrs. B's 100th day one she will never forget. Amy has a way with all of her patients. She is so loving, compassionate and extremely funny. She has such a way of making her patients feel so comfortable.
