Amy helped her get settled in a room on L&D even though she was not a patient and was not going to be admitted as a patient. Amy cared for the mom and the deceased baby as if the baby was born at our hospital.
Recently, there was a baby born without a heartbeat at a nearby birthing center. EMS was called and they brought the baby to our ER. I was the nursing supervisor and I called up to the NICU to ask if any of the nurses were willing to come down to the ER to help with this baby since the ER staff was not used to dealing with newborns and if this baby was born at a hospital the NICU nurses would be there. Amy and another nurse came right down and jumped in. Unfortunately, the baby did not make it. The mom came over from the birthing center to see her baby, and Amy helped her get settled in a room on L&D even though she was not a patient and was not going to be admitted as a patient. Amy cared for the mom and the deceased baby as if the baby was born at our hospital. She got her the supplies she needed since she had just had a baby and she checked on the mom frequently to make sure she had everything she needed. She let them know they could stay and spend time with their baby for as long as they wanted. Once the baby was taken to the mortuary, she helped the mom and dad out to their car. It was very touching to see all that Amy did and the care she provided. Amy was the perfect nurse to be there that night, and I'm so grateful she is my coworker.
