Amy Gordon goes the extra mile. She is the calm one people respond to and has empathy for her peers and her patients.
Amy's patients' status changed and his wife and daughter were distraught. Amy spent most of her shift comforting them and assuring them that he was comfortable. The following day was her day off and she called me to ask how he was doing. His prognosis was poor. She came in that day to visit with the patient and say her good-byes and again give support to the family. They were so happy to see her that they started to cry, saying "I cannot believe you came back to check on him." She spent over an hour consoling the family and offering support.
Weeks later, the patient's family came to visit Amy, but she was not on duty. They came with a bracelet with an angel on it, saying that she was their angel and wanted to thank her for who she is and how much she meant to them at their time of grief.
This is the type of Nurse Amy is. She is very proud to be a nurse and to be able to give of herself to others. She does this with patients and families and her peers, and she is a great example of being a DAISY Award honoree.
