When we were moved to the 8th floor, this wonderful woman came up to the room after her shift was over hugged us, comforted us, and made sure my brother was comfortable.
Amy continually went above and beyond for my brother. He had surgery for vein grafts in his legs. During surgery they found a cancerous tumor in his neck. He was in the unit for a week and Amy continually showed him respect and dignity. The other nurses came in and did their job - the difference was that Amy came in and treated him like a man and talked to him but also she continually cared for us. When all the different doctors (vein, heart, respiratory, oncology) kept throwing information at us Amy always took the time to help us understand what they were telling us. We had to make the decision to take my brother off life support. Again, Amy was there to comfort my brother and us. She actually asked my brother if he wanted us to stop life support and all the treatments, and my brother nodded his head yes. Then, when we were moved to the 8th floor, this wonderful woman came up to the room after her shift was over hugged us, comforted us, and made sure my brother was comfortable. My sister was staying, and so was I, as I wanted to be with my brother when he passed. I told her I would just sleep on the floor and again she took charge and moved things in the room and made arrangements for a cot to be brought in. This was all done while she was off work. She has a 2 year old at home whom she hadn't seen all day. The whole horrible situation was made better because of her. Nursing is not just a job to her - it is her! Sometimes I believe there are angels on earth, and she truly is an ANGEL of MERCY!!! Your organization is extremely lucky to have her on your team.
