Analiza helped to reposition the patient multiple times and provided other comfort measures, such as distraction, by talking with the patient.
I provided care to a post-operative patient who, unfortunately, was experiencing a great deal of pain. While I administered multiple doses of pain medication, as we often do in the PACU, Analiza Jacinto, RN, immediately came to the bedside to assist. When Analiza saw the patient come out of the Operating Room, she immediately recognized the potential for a challenging situation.
Analiza continuously reassured the patient. She provided emotional support and information to help manage the patient's pain and emotional state. Despite our efforts, the patient could not tolerate the pain and fear, and her anxiety escalated to a panic attack. She was hysterically crying, stated she felt out of control, and was inconsolable. While I called the anesthesia provider for additional medication orders, Analiza stayed with the patient. She held her hand and gave her a back massage to help her relax while we waited for the pain medication to work. Analiza helped to reposition the patient multiple times and provided other comfort measures, such as distraction, by talking with the patient. It took over three hours to manage the pain and anxiety, which is an extremely rare situation and an extensive amount of time. Analiza demonstrated exceptional interpersonal skills with the patient and gained her trust. She was in constant communication with me, and utilized critical thinking to help manage the patient' pain and anxiety. Analiza exemplifies the PRIDE values, and I am grateful and honored to work with her.
