My dad was a patient at Hays Medical Center July 22-24. He was admitted through the emergency room to room 344. I would like to call out Andi RN and Hannah (student nurse) for the exceptional and compassionate care they gave to Dad while a patient. He was a very frail man, when they re-positioned him, they used the utmost gentle care so he wouldn't have pain when moved. I asked that the blood transfusion be given over the maximum amount of time (4 hours) so that his heart could handle the additional fluid and he would not become short of breath. Andi made sure that this happened, each transfusion was given over a 4 hour period. Hannah made a colorful sign "Please use caution when moving left arm" and posted it above Dad's bed so that all staff knew his left arm was extremely painful.
They also did non-medical things that mean so much to a family. They set up a table for mom to crochet while she visited Dad. Hannah searched for phone numbers for me when dad passed on July 24. We were given alone time with dad and were never rushed to leave the hospital after he passed.
Our experience with Hays Medical Center was exceptional and Andi and Hannah contributed greatly to our experience. Please let them know that they made a sad time in our life bearable by being the great nurses they are.
