Angie's care for me was above and beyond what was expected. Angie took an interest in my personal life and everything that I am involved in outside of just being in the hospital. I feared that I was going to be treated differently since I was a nursing student and those that were with me were nurses as well.
Angie was thrilled to find out I was a nursing student and even went as far as to offer ideas on how to get through nursing school while being non-weight bearing for three months. I was tearful in thinking that I was going to have to drop out of nursing school due to my surgery, but Angie made me feel that I could do anything and told me that I would do well. The moment I realized that Angie needed recognition was right before I left.
Right before I left, Angie gave me a hug; it is so rare that healthcare providers touch their patients to show compassion and empathy. Until that time, I had only been touched to get blood or flush an IV. The moment she hugged me I melted in my wheelchair and felt like I could conqueror the world. I also found out that Angie was up to become a charge nurse; I hope that she gets this position as she is amazing.
