I have a young patient in the ICU that I have been taking care of for the past four days. For those four days, I was also working with my coworker. My patient is extremely young and has a terminal illness that was just discovered. My patient also does not speak English, and he has no family in this country. I don’t speak Spanish, communicated with him only through the interpreter. However, Angrez speaks Spanish and always came around to just chat with my patient. They developed a bond, and I think my patient was so happy that he could just communicate with at least one person without having to use a screen. On my third day of work, my coworker went to go say goodbye to my patient and told him that he would see him the next day. However, he was put on standby. Despite this, he came to the hospital the next day and sat with my patient to fulfill his promise that he made. My patient is near the end of his life, and I can’t imagine the comfort that Angrez has brought to him. It warmed my heart to witness this, and I am so proud to work with such an extraordinary nurse.
