Anh’s level of understanding and true passion for her job made a world of difference not only in his medical issues but also in his personal life.
To say Anh gave phenomenal care and created a comforting environment would be an understatement. Doing education within a healthcare system for almost a decade you naturally have an understanding and expectation for how patient/nursing relationships are to go. There is a level of making each patient feel comforted, build trust with you, keep things professional, and all this is to be created within one shift.
Anh exceeded all these expectations. It can be hard to walk into a room and not let the patient load, and many other circumstances on your shift affect you when you walk into each patient's room. She would always come in with a smile, asking appropriate questions but making it fun and educating my father-in-law every step of the way and with every part of the care she provided. My father-in-law was initially admitted after some b/p issues resulting from a knee replacement. Ahn was his nurse on one of the first days of his admission when there were a lot of unknowns with what was happening as his HBG continued to drop.
A little back story to understand his anxiety about being in a hospital. His wife, around 3 years ago, passed away as an inpatient while getting an MRI. Ahn knew none of this, of course. My father-in-law is a quiet man but was extremely anxious and fearful and did not trust any doctor on the unit due to his trauma from that unfortunate event. She was excellent at open communication and showing compassion. Which was especially important given what happened to his wife. The result of her actions and caring personality gave a man faith in a medical system that he came into feeling was broken. Anh’s level of understanding and true passion for her job made a world of difference not only in his medical issues but also in his personal life. This is something we could never thank her enough for. She has a clear dedication to her patients. She naturally has
the gift to treat her patients as if they are her own family and be their advocate. What she is blessed with is something you can’t teach or train someone. You’re truly lucky to have her as a team member of Allen Hospital and as a tremendous example to other nurses who get the chance to not only work with her but learn from her.
