I was a patient at Barstow Community Hospital. I won't lie, some of my experiences with Barstow have not been very pleasant ones. Yet because of a recommendation by a friend I decided to give the hospital one more try. She told me things had changed for better at Barstow and since she is an employee there, I gave it a shot. To be honest I did not want to have to drive thirty minutes and wait hours or days to be seen somewhere else. I was in way too much pain to be waiting that long in an emergency room.
To my surprise, my friend was right I was treated wonderfully at Barstow from the ER staff all the way to the tele floor, everyone was great. Yet there was one person I feel went above and beyond for me, her name is Anna. I was surprised to hear her say that she was new to the department because her skills and her compassion showed right away. I have been dealing with my health issue for well over a year. Getting the run around from every hospital in the high desert. Yes, it was an insurance issue but no one seemed to do anything to help me get where I needed to go. I know it was referrals and lots of red tape, but I had felt helpless because I couldn't get where I needed to get the care I needed. Anna worked hard for me and fought for me to get what I needed. She never left for the day without touching base with me and giving me a head's up of what was happening. This gave me comfort in knowing finally someone cared enough to help.
I was in your facility for one long week. Anna fought hard for me to get my referral and because of her I was transferred to UCI and received the care I so desperately needed. Anna is a nurse with a big heart; she truly cares for the patients she is helping. I have unfortunately been in many hospitals and someone like her is hard to find.
