I nominate Annamaria Gargano because she is a true nursing student advocate. I bring my nursing students from Edison State College to the Brookdale. I have brought the students there for the past year and Annamaria consistently welcomes them with warmth, professionalism and true concern for their learning to become a nurse. She takes it upon herself to orient the students to the unit and has even come in on her day off. She finds learning experiences for them and offers them the opportunity to participate and grow. She once took them into a room and demonstrated how to do a bladder scan. She has had students buddy up with her to see what she does when she is in charge and has offered to assist me with student medication administration so that they can get an opportunity if I am busy with other students. She has helped students learn fire safety and came to their past conference presentation, inviting other staff to attend. Annamaria is simply a great role model of what nurses can do to help students grow into our professional nursing role.
