Annika was Z's nurse on day two of his recovery and she was the most attentive and caring - both as a nurse and as a human. Z has spent months of his life in hospitals and has never received the loving care Annika gave despite being very busy. Annika checked in on him often because he was so uncomfortable and in so much pain. She went above and beyond - even taking time to go to the cafeteria for honey (for his tea), so we didn't have to wait for it to be delivered. She did everything in her power to ease his pain and make him more comfortable. 

Annika was assigned to Z again on day four (discharge day). We spoke about our full circle moment and how she was there to help him into a chair for the first time post-transplant and now here to help him go home. 

Once again, Annika was so attentive and made sure she got to every little thing she said she would. Z is very sarcastic by nature and by day four, he definitely had his personality back. He was goofing around and joking about things that would make many people uncomfortable. Annika didn't skip a beat. We all developed a rapport. That may seem like a small thing, but I assure you, it is not at all. Z has spent so much time in hospitals, and he develops severe anxiety in his setting. By day four, anxiety was high. Annika eased that so much by taking the time to get to know him, connecting with him, and meeting him at his goofy, silly self. 

Annika explained every single thing she did in great detail, which eased my mind so much. She truly feels like family now. We will forever hold Annika close in our hearts! Thank you, Annika!
