Annmarie eased all of these emotions and more that day. Her genuine care for myself, my husband, and our unborn child was shown in her words and her actions. She took a situation that we came into the hospital dreading and turned it into one we could manage.
I am a registered nurse at UHS Broome Oncology and I am writing to you about a personal experience I had just three days ago, at UHS Wilson Hospital. I felt I had to reach out as soon as I could about the care I received at your organization. I was directly admitted from my doctor's office for fetal demise at almost 19 weeks pregnant. As soon as I entered, my husband and I were escorted to the unit by a lovely volunteer. Upon reaching the Labor and Delivery unit, the secretary took our information, and we were promptly greeted by our nurse, Annmarie. I could have done a general survey about my care at the hospital that day, giving tens across the board for the care, but the care from Annmarie goes beyond any numbers or even words that I can explain in this email. Hearing that your baby has passed away almost halfway through your pregnancy and that you have to experience the labor process only to deliver a deceased child was one of the worst, if not the worst, thing my husband and I have ever heard in our lives. The anxiety, pain, and sadness we felt as we entered the hospital room was incomprehensible.
Annmarie eased all of these emotions and more that day. Her genuine care for myself, my husband, and our unborn child was shown in her words and her actions. She took a situation that we came into the hospital dreading and turned it into one we could manage. From popping into the room asking if we needed new cold cranberry juices, having conversations full of laughter on a day where we thought laughing would not happen, to doing such beautiful post-mortem care for our child, and making sure we were comfortable with our decisions every step of the way, Annmarie’s care was above and beyond any nursing care someone could give.
I would give her twenty DAISY Awards and for what she did for us that day. I don’t even think that would be enough recognition for her. We could not thank her enough when her shift was over, and we truly cannot get over how much she changed our lives that day by making our situation bearable and comforting. I could not thank Annmarie enough for her care and compassion that day, and we will never forget her. Thank you again for your time.
