Annmarie Krawiec, or Annie as we call her in IR, is a compassionate, loving nurse who gives 110% to each patient in the moment. She is a truly deserving candidate for the DAISY Award. She ensures that her patients feel like they are the most important person in the world. They feel important and cared for. She develops trust and lasting relationships.
Assessment skills- Annie uses her keen nursing experience from years as an emergency room nurse to carefully assess each of her patients prior to any procedure. She cares for our oldest patients as well as our newborn babies.
Persistence- Annie always advocates and speaks up for her patients. She insists on making the patient's point to the physician and isn't satisfied until her patient is.
Compassionate communication- Annie involves the patient's loved ones in making informed decisions and giving consent for IR procedures. She takes the time to know them. She laughs and cries with them. Mentoring- Annie's excellent IV skills are sought after daily. She makes the patient at ease while encouraging others and assisting others with difficult IV starts.
Little things- Annie has her "frequent fliers" who come in on a regular basis for procedures, often cancer patients, who ask for her and seek her out. She greets them with a warm friendly smile and often a hug. She becomes an integral part of their family during a difficult, sometimes end of life period. She exhibits true compassion and interest in each of them.
Listening- Annie's heart is big enough to bring a smile and ray of hope to her suffering people. She brightens their day and patients often say, despite being in pain, that they enjoy their time spent with Annie. She is mentioned frequently by name in follow up calls by patients and families. They say she is an excellent nurse, funny, loving, compassionate and always upbeat and hopeful.
Annie is determined and fiesty. She never gives up! She stands up for what is right. Her questioning attitude drills down to assist in determining the right course of action for her patient. Annie gives her "all" to each of her patients and they love her for it.
One of her patients, a frequent flier, suffering from liver cancer, made a special point to write a letter to our President. In the patient's own words:
"Annmarie Krawiec has been my nurse on three separate occasions in Interventional Radiology. Annie deserves recognition for what I consider is her dedication to her profession and going above and beyond the norm. It takes a special kind of person to choose a career where they care for others and to do so with compassion. The difference with Annie is this, she is more than a nurse, she is like an angel on earth. She's has shown me professionalism, politeness and compassion. Please extend my thanks to Annie for being Annie. You Sir are a very lucky man to have people like Annie working at Christ Hospital."
