April spent hours in the room because she knew how important her hair was to this patient.
April reflects basic human needs as described in the Quality Caring Model. April cares not only for patients but also for their families. April‘s work focuses on love/belonging, safety, and patient needs and she incorporates those aspects in her daily plan of care. Her main goal is to provide safe compassionate care. April’s work reflects how nurses can improve patients' healing and recovery. April makes every patient feel comfortable during their stay. She listens, reassures, and takes the time to provide individualized care to every patient.
Recently, there was a bilateral knee patient with a complicated case of Parkinson's disease post-surgery. She was shaking badly to the point her hair got knotted. The patient was upset and said, “I look stupid”!!! April took her time trying to get the knots out of her hair. April spent hours in the room because she knew how important her hair was to this patient.
April goes above and beyond her daily nurse’s duty. Her care provided comfort and helped this patient with her self-concept. April’s care demonstrates how nurses can impact patients healing process.
