First of all, let me introduce myself and tell you a little about what brought me to Ascension Psychiatry. I ended up here after stabbing myself several times because I thought it was the only way out of an extremely abusive relationship. After several days in the ICU and another few days in the recovery room, I then came here for treatment. I was open and honest to the staff about the abusive relationship I was in. One day I was in a meeting with the doctor when my abusive abuser showed up to visit me. He was extremely angry, loud and swearing at the nursing staff because I was still in with the doctor. When I was done with my visit with my abuser, all the nurses came to visit me because they were concerned about me, to see if I was okay, which touched my heart.
April Jensen, is a nurse who works on 3 York, adult side. She asked to speak to me. We went to speak in my room. She asked why I was still with this guy, and I explained of my son's death and the memories from my son's funeral. So we talked and came up with a plan. She took it upon herself to call him to bring back my memory book to the hospital to help with my treatment, and share in group. April went above and beyond her duty to help me. I cannot express how much her support meant to me. She gave me the courage to end the relationship. She didn't have to. It brought tears to my eyes just to know she cares so much about me.
