It is with great appreciation that I write this letter. The level of care provided by Nurse April in the ICU was of the utmost quality. Her genuine care and concern for my wife were a great comfort to me and our family. We truly appreciate that she took the time to explain everything that was going on and took the time to answer all the questions. I could see that the care for my wife was very challenging and demanding based on how sick she was. April never got stressed or flustered and she maintained her professionalism no matter the situation. Her presence was comforting to both myself and my family. The amount of care and compassion she showed my wife, although my wife was in a coma, far exceeded my expectations.
April's compassion and care were even more evident when the hospital was working to have my wife transferred to Oregon so she could be put on an ECMO machine. April went above and beyond to get me as much information about the area so that I could plan to meet my wife in Oregon. Her level of detail about the ECMO process was comforting and allowed for a smooth transition from Alaska to Oregon. Even after we left Alaska, April's level of care did not stop. April continued to communicate with me and not only check on my wife's health, but she also asked about my well-being which is just another example of how passionate she is about her job. April's personal sacrifices for her patients and their families did not go unnoticed and the care she offered was top notch.
I know she has helped many patients like my wife but I want to thank her personally and recognize her for devoting her professional life to helping sick people. It takes a special person to be a nurse and she possesses not just the medical knowledge and skills necessary to treat her patients, but she also knows how to put their family at ease. I have no doubt that my wife received the best care imaginable and cannot be more grateful. Although we still have a long road ahead of us as my wife recovers, I know because of nurses like April, anything is possible.
