They quickly yelled for assistance as the baby's head protruded face up out of the patient. This nurse calmly and efficiently supported the baby's head, gently guiding the baby as it emerged.
Recently, they had a morning full of hustle and bustle between her critical patients when she thought she was getting a young female with a chief complaint of abdominal pain. Something that seemed much easier than her other patients. This chief complaint of abdominal pain quickly developed into that patient giving birth to a baby in 7B. They were bedside and delivered the baby without hesitation, along with the doctor and PA. This is just one example of their dedication to exceptional care, making a difference in someone’s life (in this case, two lives), and demonstrating excellent clinical skills.

We had a 20-year-old patient who walked into the ED screaming with abdominal pain. They were immediately pulled into a room and assisted onto a stretcher. She only spoke Spanish. Through the Spanish interpreter, she told us her last menstrual cycle was December 2024, and here it is January 2025. She was immediately put on a bedpan for urine but unable to void. This nurse quickly did a serum UCG, which was positive. A few minutes after finding out she was pregnant, she yelled out, "It's coming!" in Spanish. They quickly yelled for assistance as the baby's head protruded face up out of the patient. This nurse calmly and efficiently supported the baby's head, gently guiding the baby as it emerged. She and the ED MD successfully delivered what appeared to be a healthy, viable baby boy! We found out later through the OB/GYN that the baby was approximately 37 weeks gestation.
