I would like to recognize Ashley, Nurse, 4th Floor Surgical Recovery for her exceptional professionalism and care during my stay at Southside Regional Medical Center.

I had surgery performed. Every single person I met from the beginning treated me with care, concern and respect. They were personable, professional, friendly and reassuring. However, Ashely deserves special recognition.

Following my recovery from surgery and anesthesia in the PACU I was transported to my room for an overnight stay.  I arrived in the room at about 12:30pm and was still a bit disoriented and in some significant pain. Ashley was in the room and introduced herself as the nurse who would be taking care of me. For the next 7 hours (until she left at the end of her shift) she provided absolutely the best medical care I have ever received. Her first inquiry was about my pain level, and she took action such that within 30 minutes I was able to start relaxing and resting comfortably. Ashely explained how I would be cared for, what medications I would be receiving, and what to do if I had a problem or my pain level increased. She visited my room frequently to check on me and answer questions, she ensured I had everything I needed to be comfortable, and carefully monitored my recovery. I listened carefully to her explanation of my situation to her replacement at shift change and she covered every bit of information necessary to keep me on the road to a discharge the next day. Every aspect of her care was calming and reassuring.

I am now at home recovering and doing well. I am convinced that Ashley's professionalism, medical expertise, warm personality, and calm demeanor were exactly what I needed to set me on the path to a next-day release and a comfortable recovery at home. She is, without question, the finest example of everything a healthcare professional should be that I have ever encountered.  Bon Secours Southside is truly blessed to have her as a member of your team, and I was blessed to have her as my nurse.
