My mom has been in Del Webb for almost a week now. She has been in the Emergency Room, surgery unit, 5th floor and the 4th floor two times. The best nurse that could have been assigned to Mom is Ashley. Ashley has been kind, gentle, loving, compassionate, and respectful. At no time did we ever see Ashley exhibit she was overloaded. When in the room with Mom, she treated her as if she was her only patient, as if Mom was her own mom/grandmother. It warmed my heart that, at 90 years old, cranky, self-centered, controlling, bossy and sometimes offensive, Mom could receive such wonderful care.
There was an incident a couple of nights ago that could have gone very wrong. Ashley kept her wits about her, handled the situation calmly and swiftly, and then took Mom by the hand, stroked her head, looked her right in the eyes and said, "I am so, so sorry that this happened to you. Please forgive me." The irony here is that the incident was not even Ashley's fault. Yes, it was on her watch. However, I was there and clearly there was nothing that she could have done to prevent the situation. Ashley handled the situation while making certain that Mom was comfortable and safe. I will be forever grateful that Ashley Best was assigned to care for Mom.
