Ashley has gone on several mission trips. Her most recent was to Guatemala where she attended with High School girls acting as their chaperone. She helped build schoolhouses and provided them with supplies for school-aged children. She assists the department with our self-scheduling and serves as a preceptor and mentor to our new and rotating staff.
While at the Emergency Center greeter desk, Ashley helped check in a young woman that was brought in by her husband for multiple facial injuries. Ashley felt there was something not right about the situation. She was able to separate the husband from the patient so she could perform an assessment without tipping him off to her suspicions. The patient then confided in Ashley that her husband had physically and sexually assaulted her. Her face was swollen, badly bruised, and there was evidence the patient had been strangled. Ashley transported the patient to the trauma room where the physician began to treat her. Ashley stayed with the patient until Police arrived. Without Ashley's vigilance, I fear for what may have happened to this patient. Ashley displayed incredible compassion and courage for her patient. She was a true advocate for this woman.
