I wanted to brag about one of our nurses. Ashley was a wonderful patient advocate. She was sending her patient from the Trauma/Neuro ICU to an LTAC facility. She had called report and EMS was there to pick the patient up. The EMS provider stated, "I don't know how to set up this vent. I just got trained on the vent this morning." The patient's eyes got big and he looked a little nervous. I'm very proud of Ashley for being such a strong patient advocate. She told them that she didn't feel comfortable with them transporting her patient and asked for a different crew or if there was someone who could ride with them for educational purposes and patient safety. They did not have anyone else at the time, so we opted to keep the patient in the unit until another team with a greater knowledge of vents was able to transport the patient.
