My mother was under hospice care at ETMC. This is a very difficult and emotional time for me. I was blessed to have Ashley as her nurse. As we talked, I realized Ashley was a fairly new nurse. I thought this might become a difficult situation for her too. At this time mother was for the most part, unresponsive to any stimuli - verbal or nonverbal, but that didn't stop Ashley. Ashley respectfully and softly explained everything she was going to do for her. I watched Ashley gently stroke my mother's hair with her fingers and carefully tuck her in. It was shortly after performing these few comfort measures that I realized we were very close to her passing away. I asked Ashley if she wanted to step out and not have to watch her leave but she looked at me very seriously and loving said "I'm not going to leave her or you". These were the words I needed to hear - a gift from God I believe. Five minutes later Mother passed away with Ashley and the Charge Nurse next to her holding on to me. Ashley is the perfect example of an extraordinary nurse.
