I truly believe Ashley’s decision to get me in saved my life!
After the 4th of July weekend, I came to Big Mercy ER. I entered the ER only to see the waiting room completely full. I came to the ER because I was so weak and had been having abnormal stools for four days not realizing it was blood and therefore causing me to be very pale and weak.

Thanks to Ashley, who realized how serious this could be, she got me back to an ER room quickly. Not realizing how serious my condition was I felt bad going ahead of others in the waiting room. Thank goodness they got me back to a room because I would have passed out in the waiting room had I sat there much longer. I can’t thank her enough for recognizing the urgency of the situation and moving me to a room before others.

As it turned out my situation was dire. I had a ruptured abdominal artery and was bleeding out. As I was beginning to crash, the ER got me prepped with a port before rushing me to the OR to clamp the artery, I believe in three places. I truly believe Ashley’s decision to get me in saved my life! I had never had any health issues and never had been in the hospital before or been to the ER. This first experience exceeded my expectations. I know health care is so stretched these days, but I felt like my situation was a priority to those at Mercy’s ER, and I am very grateful. Everyone truly made me feel I was important. I know the ER was overwhelmed but Ashley, being the charge nurse, did an awesome job! Every healthcare worker, the nurses, doctors, and techs could not have been any nicer. They all made me feel comfortable and in good hands. That has to be a result of how well the ER is managed and Ashley contributed to all of it. She also came up to the ICU and peeked into my room to see how I was doing. I’m sure she had plenty of patients but went above and beyond. She made me feel so good knowing how much she cared!

I know nurses and doctors are stretched to the limit in the ER, but to see how they are so compassionate to their patients, they deserve recognition! What an angel! I was truly blessed to have been in the hands of Mercy’s ER.
